Five months after Deb of Smitten Kitchen created her own rendition of the Pixar-imagined Ratatouille, she modified it to make a Ratatouille tart. Last Friday, I made one myself for a roommate dinner, and it turned out to be both easy and attractive, creating the illusion that I’m something like a sous chef (hers is on the left, mine on the right). The key to a frustration-less cooking session was to employ my roommate’s mandoline, which looks like this:

After this sublime cooking experience, I have to agree with what Deb wrote about the original Ratatouille she made:
“I can’t believe how well this worked out. I also can’t believe I cooked a cartoon dish created by an imaginary rat. But I can believe I’ll be making this again tomorrow, because it’s delicious, seasonal, and an incredible cinch to make.”
