When God decided that today would be one of the very best days of my life, he knew then that he would command mysterious forces to lead Hi Rise on Brattle to run out of mango chutney today, thus rendering it impossible for me to order my top two sandwich choices. And then God put the Cuban in my hands. God knew that, despite its inauthenticity, (the “Cuban” here lacks pulled pork), it might be one of the best sandwiches of all time. He knew that I would be compelled to run to the sandwich maker, Ivanir, and thank her profusely for her incredible creation. He knew that on this day, I could finally tell Scanwiches to suck it - SUCK IT - because I had found and tasted a sandwich that is more delicious than any of the teasing sandwich pictures I saw there and imagined tasting while procrastinating on other, more important things. God has helped me to realize this: there are few things in the world that are more critical to enjoying one’s life than a brilliantly composed sandwich.
