I hope Juno acts in another movie soon— so I don’t think of her as Juno for her whole life. She’s too good for a one-role life (I hope). She was on the cover of Vanity Fair looking somewhat suspiciously at the camera.    Also, I was elated to see Ugly Betty’s America Ferrera on the cover! It seems to strike points for ugliness, though obviously that is debatable— because she looks quite sexy here.  The Vanity Fair fold-out covers, by the way, are done by Annie Leibovitz- whose  work I saw at this exhibit four years ago. It had this Olafur-Eliasson-eque portable set of structures that moved along with the artwork.  Leibovitz is famous for her elegant and often quirky celebrity portraits. Here’s one that I thought was funny (that’s Leo with Knut, the polar bear born at the Berlin zoo):  Unfortunately, she also is the photographer for the Disney Dreams series, which I find disturbing for a number of reasons- two of the most blatant being that they have replaced Jasmine and Aladdin with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Antony. First of all, they are Hispanic- not Middle Eastern (tangent- are there Middle Eastern celebrities prominent in American entertainment?). Second of all- have our dreams really been reduced to becoming an actress who would play Cinderella? I guess that’s what we have, in lieu of being able to become Cinderella herself. It’s also a little bothersome because Leibovitz used to do things like this, and now she’s sucked into the Disney machine. But that’s another debate- what is more poisonous— Disney or Rock and Roll?
