Land Lines.
As students maintain their independence from land phones, cell phones glued into their palms or sewn into their pockets at all times, we have even begun to witness the older generation start to give up their attachment to the home phone and turn to their ubiquitous cell phones instead. It certainly is convenient. However, I’m not sure that my family will see that change anytime soon. Even though we’re all tech-saavy and cell-phone-equipped, for some reason or another, we have no cell phone service at my house, except in the upper front left corner if you squeeze into a tiny ball and place the phone at your feet, after offering your soul to the AT&T gods for the millionth time.
Maybe it’s because we live in a neighborhood surrounded by hills, but it still surprises me that my parents live in a well-developed suburb that happens to have no cell phone service in the 1/2 acre that our house occupies. What causes that?
