Yes we did

kambr:

It happened last night. It actually came true. Our generation has never seen a politician they could actually respect, never understood the concept of a president that they could follow instead of glance at sideways with derision. And last night, it actually all came together; instead of watching the poll results with dismay and confusion, we watched them with anticipation and elation. We drank beers and held vaguely onto our psets, knowing they were there but feeling the sense of something more important for the first time. We switched between MSNBC and CNN (the best election coverage, IMO) and Fox and BBC News and Comedy Central (for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s live joint show, complete with Stephen Colbert’s tears). We celebrated by running naked down the Infinite. We felt - we feel - proud to be an American.

This is our generation, this is our time, and this is our president.

While my Californian friends and I remain outraged (as if outrage could possibly describe the sad anger) that California voters have amended our constitution to ban gay marriages, it is hard not to hope that a corner has been turned - the paradoxes may be moving in circles, but at least, now, we have Obama. I still can’t believe it. I am so hopeful for America.
