Andrew Bird - Fiery Crash

If I only posted Andrew Bird songs every day, would it bother you?

I’m not sure it would bother me if you did.

In my room, it smells like latkes; there are voices in my bathroom.

I described this song to someone as a perfect description of modern life:

Instead of suffering from the black death, or, say, being lanced in a duel, we are required to imagine experiencing the most painful, terrifying situations we’ve seen on TV. Because even if they are only 0.1% possible, they’re possible because our modern world made them possible. Cure the black plague, get in a plane crash. And so we’ve got to prepare ourselves in this roundabout way. Ritual is a holdover from medieval times that still plays a big part of our lives. In other words, anxiety may be a modern affliction, but uncertainty has always been a part of human life. Perhaps we should calm down a bit.

the birdman:

to save our lives you’ve got to envision
to save all our lives you’ve got to envision
and to save all our lives you’ve got to envision
the fiery crash
it’s just a formality
why must i explain?
just a nod to mortality
before you get on

before you get on a plane.
