Tenuousness - Andrew Bird
No, I can’t stop uploading Andrew Bird songs for my song-of-the-day. I can’t, because every day my love for this album grows, unfurls. There is no one else in my music collection that will match his cleverness, his command of harmony and synthesis, his creativity and the imagery molded by his words and the sounds of his words. I particularly like this interview with Bird on Stereogum, and his reflections on the creative process:
“Making Noble Beast was another mysterious production: ‘It’s liquid, gaseous ideas flowing around in your head, and really it’s up to you to wave the wand and say ‘Now it’s a song,” he says. ‘Not that it’s a bunch of random shit. It’s just that moment that you decide something exists.’”
He also writes for the New York Times blog Measure for Measure, which is written by musicians as they travel through the creative process. I particularly enjoyed this entry, h/t Sarah Molinoff (a willowy wonder-woman).
But certainly his music—careful, crafted, surprising, resolving—is far better than his articulations about it. So, another song posted.
