Last night I went to Elements X with Ingrid, her bro, and Matt. It. was. SO SICK. I got the opportunity to watch and cheer for some of my favorite dancers — both people I knew, like Val who runs 8 Count, to the Static Noyze dancers, to the people I watch —and idolize — via youtube, including Kyle Hanagami and Ellen Kim who started as part of SF Funkanometry, split off and moved to LA to form The Lost Kids, and last night danced as Neverland.
I didn’t bring my camera, but here’s a clip of Kyle dancing to Lady Gaga - it’s incredible how he goes from a lazy drunken feel to kicking it hard in the second half. Every crew brought it last night, but you could tell the pros from the up-and-comers by the way they hit it. The dancers that both killed the moves AND expressed emotion took the show to the next level.
Boston is definitely on its way… a some of the best groups were from Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and LA, but no doubt Boston held its own. If the Boston area groups brought it as hard as they did last night in their own shows — we would have a killer college and local circuit.
